Report Launch: Teaching Stars with John Morris and Rose Patterson

5 March, 2014
Wellington

Please join us for the launch of John Morris and Rose Patterson’s final report on teacher quality, where they will discuss how New Zealand can transform teaching into a profession.

The first in a three part series of reports identified that teachers are New Zealand’s greatest educational asset. But the profession does not get the status it deserves, and this reduces the appeal of teaching as a career. The second report looked at the policies that world-leading education systems have put in place for improving the quality of their teaching professions.

Prime Minister John Key in his recent State of the Nation speech announced a major policy for developing a career structure for teachers, and the authors offer their thoughts on this policy and how it can be built on. The report then makes further recommendations for how New Zealand can attract, retain, and develop the best teachers. These policies will help to transform teaching into a profession of status, with the ultimate goal of lifting student achievement.
